Wedding Colour Schemes

Before I got engaged I'd never thought about what colour scheme I might have for our wedding. I probably didn't think about it much as I don't like to fully conform to tradition. Probably two of my favourite colours were purple and teal, but I'm not sure I would have chosen them both together. I'd thought about having black dresses for my bridesmaids and letting them choose a style that suited them, rather than me choosing the design. I liked that idea, but we were getting married in August and it didn't quite feel like a summer colour.
When searching for ideas I came across a photo of a bouquet of sunflowers that I LOVED. There was also a purple flower in the mix and it broke up the yellow colour perfectly. I never in a million years thought I'd go for 2 bright colours like yellow and purple for my wedding. I did get comments like "wow, yellow and purple are very bright!". I then doubted myself as VERY bright really wasn't my style, but I wanted that bouquet and if it meant I'd have that colour scheme so be it.

I LOVED my bouquet, it turned out far better than I had ever imaged it. I'm so pleased I stuck with it.

Dealing With Nerves On My Wedding Day

I've suffered with anxiety for many years, but I've learnt to manage it, so generally it isn't a problem (most of the time). And if there's ever a time that it could be a problem I try to put measures in place to reduce or eliminate the possible anxiety. My anxiety can be triggered by extra stress, worry, or from social settings. When it came to organising my wedding I knew this was a time that I had to put measures in place to help reduce that anxiety. I didn't think I'd be able to completely eliminate it, but that was fine, just reducing it would help towards me enjoying the day. After all if a bride and groom can't enjoy their wedding day what are we planning it for?

We can't always know when anxiety will trigger, or what will trigger it, but I've had enough experience with what can trigger it to know some of the measures to put into place. Here are some of the ways I helped reduce the possibility of anxiety taking over me on one of the most important and special days of my life.

No head table. I chose not to have a head table, there was just a small table for Keith and I. I had originally wanted it set to the side so I really wasn't centre of attention, but it was set out without me present and when I saw the set up I did agree it looked better central to the room. My other reason for not having a head table was because I didn't want the formality of a head table. I wanted a more informal day where people felt free to come over to speak to me. This is just what I personally wanted, I do think head tables can look great, but going with what I felt more comfortable with was going to help me to be far more relaxed

Wedding Guest Outfit

Sorry I don't have a proper photo of myself and what I wore. But this shows it pretty well.

We attended Keith's (my husbands) cousins wedding early September. I knew it would be a hat/fascinator affair, so wanted something pretty for the day. It needed to be on a budget as money is tight and I didn't want to spend too much for something just for 1 day. I had a dress in mind in my wardrobe, but when I tried it on it was still too snug. I ended up buying this top from Debenhams in the sale for around £20, which is actually a Wallis top. I teamed it with a light grey NEXT skirt I already had, my ivory Ruby Shoo's and a cream fascinator. The Ruby Shoo's I bought from Amazon for when I got married and I'm not sure where the fascinator came from, but I've had it for a few years.

Here's what the outfit looked like.

How I've used Wedding Decorations in my Home

When I was planning the decorations for our wedding I wanted a home made feel and I wanted to be able to use the items in our home afterwards. So I was very thoughtful about when was used. With a wedding there is always going to be something bought and used that will never get used again. But I did my best to use items that I could and would use again. I just love all the little reminders around our home of our wedding day.

Rice Krispie Chocolate Treats

I've made these rice krispie treats as part of a dessert bar for a wedding, click to see Wedding Sweets and Treats.

I wanted to try making some cake pops and these looked fairly simple to make. However when it came to putting the rice krispie treats onto the sticks, it proved a little more difficult than I first thought. But these still turned out really well and everyone loved them. With a little more time I'm sure I could turn these into Cake Pops, however on this occasion I was pushed for time, so decided that I would leave them as heart shaped rice krispie treats. Or as I've done on the photo above you can slice into squares. This way you don't have any waste.

Wedding Sweets and Treats

This week I started working back at a company I was working at up until the end of December last year. 4 times I was asked if I had brought cakes in with me. I think I may have created a bit of a reputation for myself while I was working at the company. That's not a bad thing, I can think of worse things to be remembered for. I think it's also safe to say that I enjoy baking and sharing those baked goods with friends.

Wedding Dessert Bar

I was at a friends wedding in December, up in the North of England. Another friend and myself had arrived the day earlier to help put chair covers on all the chairs at the reception venue. There was a long table at one end of the room which I assumed was for food, but it was pretty none-descript with just a plain white table cloth on it. My friend and I commented that we could have done something to dress the table up a little if we'd known before hand. But we figured our friend would have said something to us if she wanted anything adding to the table.
