"Write" Of Passage: The Importance Of Teaching Our Kids How To Hand Write

There are things our kids can do in life that feel like nice little rites of passage. Maybe it's something little, like getting them into crafts, so they are able to keep themselves occupied without television or video games, but at the same time, we can feel that we're fighting the battle against the digital world. One notable example is handwriting. It might not be something you'd have considered to be a problem a few years ago, but if you are the parents of children who are just learning how to write, the fact that children are more adept at using smartphones and tablets can spark concern. And as a result, because of the increasing use of computers, it can be a skill that goes by the wayside, especially as they get older. And while there are many parents that may think we've just got to go “with the times”, there are many benefits of our children learning to write properly and not just rely on devices. So, what are these benefits, and how do they help our children develop more in a computer-dominated world?

How To Do Right By Your Child

Parenting is hard. You need to keep so many things in mind and your children grow up so fast that the whole process can feel like a true whirlwind. It’s essential to ensure that no matter what, you care. This is likely taken care of by default. A parent who cares and makes a diligent effort to care for and raise their child well will often be much better at the job than they think. There are some tips to help this process go a little easier and to make a child develop in perhaps the most promising ways. They are as follows:

Baking With Kids - Messy Me Apron Review

I've always loved to try new recipes and experiment in the kitchen. In fact that's originally how I started my blog many years ago. I'd bake something, photograph it and share with family and friends what I'd made and the recipe. But since having children I've found it so hard to find the time or energy for it. So although I have all these recipes I'd love to try, maybe I need (for now) to change how I'm doing things.

Family Day Out: Grasshoppers Play Area at Tong Garden Centre

A few weeks back we spent the morning at Grasshoppers play area at Tong Garden Centre in Bradford. We've been before, but Tommy who is now 2.5 year old was probably a little too young to fully enjoy it. Plus we had gone on a very hot Saturday, so as you can imagine it was extremely busy. This time however it was mid-week and overcast. We went early in the day to avoid the crowds and it was just perfect. He had a brilliant time.

Funny Places Kids Fall To Sleep

As parents we can be drawn into buying all sorts of rockers, swings, soothers and sleeping aids, all in the effort to get our children to sleep a little longer. Because no matter how much sleep they get, we are always exhausted and sleep is a distant memory of the past.

But all our effort seems wasted, when they fall to sleep right where they are, as you'll see with these 20 little ones below.

1) Playing had obviously gotten too much!!

Butlins Just For Tots: Our Family Holiday

When I was getting close to the end of my pregnancy with our 2nd baby I said we should plan a break away when our baby is a few months old. I thought it would be nice to have something to look forward to, because lets face it having a new born isn't easy. And this time we'd have a toddler and a new born to deal with and I knew I could probably do with a break. We considered our options and in the end Butlins in Skegness seemed like the best option.

Not Too Old To Be Mum - My Story

This is the first post in the series Not Too Old To Be Mum for my blog Home Family Life. This is my story. I will be sharing stories from other Mamas who have had children after the age of 35.

How old were you when you had your baby/babies?

I had my first baby at 38 and second at 40.

Tell me a bit about yourself and your main reasons for having a child(ren) after the age of 35?

I'd always wanted to be a mum, but had never had the opportunity to till in my late 30s. I had dated over the years, but nothing serious and hadn't met anyone I wanted to spend my life with. I started dating my now husband when I was 35, almost 36. We married when I was almost 37, fell pregnant 6 months after being married and had my first boy 2.5 months after I turned 38. You can read more about my story here.

The Life Tips You Need To Keep Your Kids Healthy

How many people do you know that suffer from health problems as they hit their 30’s, 40’s or above? Perhaps you’re one of those people, or you have family members like this. Either way, it’s common for loads of people to end up with health issues later in life, largely because of the way they lived their life as a child. Bad habits catch up with you!

I mention this because I think it’s so important to instil good habits in our kids while they’re young. If they live a healthy life as children, then it limits the chances of them getting various health problems as an adult. Things like high blood pressure, heart disease, high cholesterol, obesity, etc. can all be caused due to a childhood full of bad health habits.

Therefore, I’ve come up with a few simple tips that you can use to keep your kids as healthy as possible, in all areas of their life. Give them a read, and start applying them to your household so everyone can stay healthy and happy forever!

The Necessary Sacrifices Of Good Parenting

Let’s get things straight about parenting once and for all. Most parents will tell you that it is the most beautiful thing on earth and that you can only feel whole once you too join the clan of the happy mamas and papas. On the other end, you can get to talk to those who don’t have children and don’t want any claiming that parenting is about sacrificing your lifestyle for the benefit of someone else, even if that someone else happens to your child. You get the picture: These two schools of thought are in a perpetual argument about who’s right and who isn’t. It’s time to set the records straight.

The Cycle Of Stuff: Keeping Up As Trends Change

At times, being a parent often feels like simply cycling through product after product, discarding old ones as you go. Along with all the gear you need to raise them, children themselves also have an appetite for materialism. Of course, the toys you give them and the items they enjoy are good, as they often help with learning. The issue is, there just isn’t the space for it. So, to help you out, this post will be exploring some of the ways you can solve this issue, along with some of its primary causes.

Family Day Out - Farmer Copley's

A few weeks ago we planned to have a family day out, and found an event on at Farmer Copleys that looked fun. We visited the farm last year to see the pumpkins and had a lovely day out then. But unfortunately Tommy had been poorly so we didn't head out as early as planned. We still headed to the farm, but didn't bother going into the event because it was late in the afternoon. But the farm has a lovely shop and a few animals to look at. There was also a tractor that Tommy absolutely loved. It was the first time he'd really smiled in days after being so poorly.

Here are some photos from our trip out.

Do You Need To Get Involved With Your Child's School?

Your child spends so much of their early life at school and their teachers shape them almost as much as you do, so you should be involved right? Sadly, a lot of parents don’t have the time to get as involved as they would like in their kid’s schooling. Or so they say. So many people are guilty of using that excuse, but being a part of their school life doesn’t have to involve giving up hours of your time every week. If parents evening is the only time that you ever visit your child’s school, there’s more you could be doing.

Losing Your Creative Juices? Try These Solutions

A lot of parents with young children find it a draining period of their lives. And even the sparkliest, most creative genius can often turn into a dribbling wreck thanks to countless sleepless nights and over reliance on the bad TV shows, trashy magazines, and easy reads they seek out for solace.

Eventually, however, the fog lifts. But what happens if that creative spark doesn’t appear to be there anymore?

If this sounds familiar, don’t panic, it happens to a lot of parents. Your creative juices still flow within you - they are just harder to get out and trapped deep inside. Here’s a  few ideas on how you can tap back into the well of creativity and start making things once again.

You Don’t Need To Wrap Kids In Cotton Wool To Keep Them Safe

If there’s one thing mums fear the most, it’s something bad happening to their little ones. Whether it’s an accident or illness or a bully or home intrusion that you worry about causing your child harm, you can’t wrap your little ones in cotton wool forever. Your children need to have the space to grow and explore the world around them; they have the right not to be mollycoddled.
As a parent, it’s completely normal to worry about your little ones, but what you don’t want to do is let your fears stop them from having a happy childhood. The good news is that to keep your little ones safe you don’t need to wrap them in cotton wool, you just need to take some precautions to safeguard them, that’s all.

Summer Fun And Sun Safety For Kids

We all want to enjoy the sunshine, and watch the pure delight on our kids’ faces as they run on the beach, but you can’t stop hearing those pesky warnings about the dangers of sunburn and skin cancer. The truth is, the sun is an essential source of Vitamin D, which is crucial for developing healthy bones, and it can help fight depression; in short, it’s not evil. However, too much sun can cause damage to skin, and no parent wants to see their child suffer through sunburn. The only solution, therefore, is compromise. Here are a few ways you can let your children enjoy the sunshine, without risking UV damage.
