Why Does My Child Get Up So Early?

Pexels. CCO Licensed.

Young kids typically want to get up earlier than adults. But just how early is too early? The average time in which kids get up is between 6am and 8am. If your kids regularly get up before 6am, this could be considered too early and may be something that you want to put a stop to. But just how do you stop a child getting up before 6am? To get them to sleep later, you need to first work out why they’re waking up so early. Below are a few causes and solutions.

Building A Baby’s Bedroom Before They’re Born

baby's gray knit hat

The environment surrounding a child throughout their life is very important to them. They will be shaped by the space you give them, with their future being partly dictated by this side of their life. Of course, though, while it is easy to understand what a baby needs, it can often be a challenge to put it into practise before they are born. To help you out with this, this post will be exploring some of the work which can be done to make this process as quick as possible, giving your little ones the very best start in life.

Breastfeeding Almost Sent me into Depression!

Yesterday I posted on Instagram about how I hated the term "Breast is Best" and wasn't so keen on the term "Fed is Best" either. I was worried that I'd get a lot of negative comments, but instead I (mostly) got a lot of comments from women who had also struggled to breastfeed their baby and the trauma that had caused them. I realise trauma may sound like a bit of a dramatic word, but for some it really is a traumatic experience, it certainly was for me. And I realised these women needed some support and to know they weren't alone in what they'd gone through.

Firstly I'd like this to be a supportive post, this is not a post to bash breastfeeding women, I think you're amazing. Breastfeeding your baby is HARD work and you've been able to do it despite the difficulties, I really do take my hat off to you. This post is to say it doesn't always work and unfortunately some of the comments that are said are very hurtful and just add salt to an already open wound.

Not Too Old To Be Mum - Rebekah

This week’s "Not Too Old To Be Mum" is with Rebekah. Rebekah isn't part of the blogging world, she just wanted to share her story. If you read my story of how I became a mum at nearly 40 you may remember her. She was one of my friends in the photo with me when I was single and here she is now sharing her story of how she became a mum.

First of all congratulations on your baby. How old were you when you had your baby/babies?

I was 40,  and having my baby was the best 40th birthday present I could have wished for!

Not Too Old To Be Mum - Elisa

This week’s "Not Too Old To Be Mum" is with Elisa from Only Elisa Knows.

First of all congratulations on your baby. How old were you when you had your baby/babies?

Thank you. I am 39 years old going 40 when I had my first baby. I conceived him at age 39 and give birth at the age of 40. It was 4 months to my 40th birthday.

Tell me a bit about yourself and your main reasons for having a child(ren) after the age of 35?
I am separated for more than 10 years. I am an emotionally battered wife. My ex-husband called me a swine which refers to a pig who cannot give birth. It is degrading as he created a rumour against me.  I have no idea why we don't have a child for more than 13 years. Some said that our chromosomes are incompatible. After a few years, I found the strength to leave him. To make story short. I found a job and a man who is 8 years younger than me. I didn't expect that I am carrying a child because of what happened in my past.  So, there is no definite reason why I have a child at this age.  I did not do anything. What I remember is I (do) prayed hard to have a child.

Not Too Old To Be Mum - Sam

This week’s "Not Too Old To Be Mum" is with Sam from Mummy Market.

First of all congratulations on your baby. How old were you when you had your baby/babies?

I was 42 when I had my son Jack.
Tell me a bit about yourself and your main reasons for having a child(ren) after the age of 35?

My name is Sam, married to John for 7 yrs after meeting in Cornwall. My son Jack is four and I have two teenage step boys.  I've always wanted to be a mum since I was little. I loved my dollies and really looked after them. I had  a couple of long term relationships, the last one being 13 yrs and particularly abusive and before I knew it I was in my late thirties.

Not Too Old To Be Mum - Helen

This week’s "Not Too Old To Be Mum" is with Helen from Welsh Mum Writing.
First of all congratulations on your baby. How old were you when you had your baby/babies?

I became pregnant with my son at 40 and had him at 41. He’s our only child.

Tell me a bit about yourself and your main reasons for having a child(ren) after the age of 35?
I didn’t meet my husband until I was in my early thirties, and got married at 36.  Before then, I thought I wanted children but the time and relationship was never right. I’d decided I would probably pursue it on my own and then I met my husband. I think many women find themselves in that position – men too.

Not Too Old To Be Mum - Jenny

This week’s "Not Too Old To Be Mum" is with Jenny from The Brick Castle.

First of all congratulations on your baby. How old were you when you had your baby/babies?

My baby is a bit big now. I was 22 when I had my oldest son, and 38 when I had my youngest. I had another 3 children in between.
Tell me a bit about yourself and your main reasons for having a child(ren) after the age of 35?
In common with a lot of people nowadays, I've had two long-term relationships. I was with my ex for 15 years, then single, then with my current partner, who himself had 2 children. We really wanted another child to bring the family together and the kids were keen too. We had a big house and all the toys we'd ever need. Once we had him, we realised he would end up alone once all the big kids went away, so if we wanted company for him we'd have to be quick. My personal comfortable limit was age 38.

Baby Led Weaning - What I Need To Know

Fraser - 5 months old

I started writing this post around 3 weeks ago and as is the case with most parents of little ones there never seems to be enough time and before you know it a few weeks have passed and you haven't finished doing that thing you started. So here I am finishing this post, since now my baby is over 6 months (😱how on earth did that happen!!! I blink and six months have passed). And we have started the weaning process. I will share more on how things are going in the coming weeks and months, but for now here is this post.

Not Too Old To Be Mum - Christy

This week’s "Not Too Old To Be Mum" is with Christy from Welsh Mum.

First of all congratulations on your baby. How old were you when you had your baby/babies?

I was 34 when I conceived and 35 when I gave birth to my son last year.
Tell me a bit about yourself and your main reasons for having a child(ren) after the age of 35?
I'm Christy and I live in South Wales with my husband and son. I started writing my blog shortly after the birth of my son when I was 35 as I wanted to share my journey and experiences. Having a baby later in life was not really a choice for us. We started trying for a baby when I was 25 when we had been married for a year. It took us 9 years to conceive due to a few health problems, including PCOS and Endometriosis. For the longest time we didn't expect to be able to have a child at all and feel very blessed that we got there in the end. It showed us how strong we are as people and how strong our marriage was.

Not Too Old To Be Mum - Mary

This week’s "Not Too Old To Be Mum" is with Mary from Over 40 and a Mum to One

First of all congratulations on your baby. How old were you when you had your baby/babies?
I'm what is apparently now classed as a 'geriatric' mum - I was 41 when my son was born in 2009.
Tell me a bit about yourself and your main reasons for having a child(ren) after the age of 35?
I'm Mary, just turned 50 and a Mum to one 8 year old boy. I've run Over 40 and a Mum to One for five years now, sharing my adventures with my son. I was always very career driven and although I loved being an Auntie I'd never really considered having children of my own.  All that changed when I got divorced at 39 after being with my then husband for over twenty years.  I questioned everything that I'd believed in and realised that I could have so much more.  I met someone else, he didn't have children either and we decided that if we were going to have a family we'd need to start trying sooner than later.

Funny Places Kids Fall To Sleep

As parents we can be drawn into buying all sorts of rockers, swings, soothers and sleeping aids, all in the effort to get our children to sleep a little longer. Because no matter how much sleep they get, we are always exhausted and sleep is a distant memory of the past.

But all our effort seems wasted, when they fall to sleep right where they are, as you'll see with these 20 little ones below.

1) Playing had obviously gotten too much!!

Not Too Old To Be Mum - Liberty

This week’s "Not Too Old To Be Mum" is with Liberty from Liberty on the Lighter Side.

How old were you when you had your baby/babies?

I had my first baby when I was 30, second when I was 32, third at 34 and fourth at 36.

Tell me a bit about yourself and your main reasons for having a child(ren) after the age of 35?

I had a notion when I was young that four was a good number of children to have. I have no idea where that came from as I am one of five. But after our third baby we seriously toyed with the idea of whether we should have any more children. Our last had been a very challenging baby, in her first year she hardly ever slept for longer than 40 minute stretches and the exhaustion put a strain on our marriage. There were so many other factors to consider too. We’d no longer be able to use a standard sized car and there would be further financial burdens to factor in later on. Pregnancy had taken its toll on my body and I was worried that it was going to exacerbate problems I already had. I was getting older (I was 35) and I was scared about another delivery too. I finally had peace about our decision to not have any more children and then six weeks later I discovered I was pregnant! We were in shock for a few weeks (shed some tears) until we came to terms with it. She was born 3 weeks after I turned 36. Of course, now we have absolutely no regrets about having another baby, she is such a funny, sensitive and creative soul, it’s a delight having another little person in our family to love.
